REFORMULATION AND HERMENEUTICS: RESEARCHING THE HISTORY OF ISLAMIC LEGAL THEORY CONFERENCE HELD IN ISTANBUL UNIVERSITY

Islamic Reformulation is a three- year Global Uncertainties Leadership Fellowship funded by Research Councils UK and administered by the Economic and Social Research Council, aims to explore how Muslim thought has developed in the modern period, and how these modern developments relate to the pre-modern tradition of Islamic thought.

Beginning on 22nd February, in Istanbul University Congress and Culture Centre with the opening speech of Rector of IU Prof. Dr. Mahmut AK, Reformulation and Hermeneutics: Researching the History of Islamic Legal Theory Conference forms the major activities of The Islamic Reformulation Project. The Conference continued with the speeches of Dean of the Faculty of Theology, Istanbul University Murteza Bedir and Director of the Islamic Reformulations Project, University of Exeter Robert Gleave. An independent scholar from Boston, Aron Zysow, has given a speech about “Casual analogy(qiyas al-‘illa) and its historical overview. Kevin Reinhart from Dartmouth, spoke upon “Punctuality and Laxity: Deferred Performance of Ritual Obligations in Usuli theory”

During the conference many scholars from different states, will lecture about usul al-fiqh and there will be an evening meal in Baltalimanı Restaurant, Bosphorus on Tuesday 23rd, museum tour, on Wednesday 24th and it will be finishing with the conference dinner on Wednesday 24th February 2016.
