“Our Unity Is Our Academic Strength”

The Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Prof. Dr. Ergün Yolcu made the following explanation about the subject: “The first Communication Faculty of our country, IÜ Communication Faculty, is also a leading faculty in strategic planning and quality management processes, as in every field. All these studies have revealed the uniqueness and the difference of our Faculty from others and have enabled us to complete the accreditation process successfully. The Departments of Journalism, Public Relations and Publicity and Radio, Television and Cinema of the Faculty of Communication of IU have been accredited for 2 years until 20 February 2022. This was done successfully thanks to the support of our students, our academic staff and administrative staff. As IU Faculty of Communication, unity and cooperation are our academic strength; we have always embraced being together.”

The strategic planning process at the Faculty of Communication, which is the first faculty in Turkey to have a dynamic strategic planning in the field of Communication, is carried out by the Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Prof. Dr. Ergün Yolcu. The studies started in 2017 under the chairmanship of Prof. Yolcu. The “Faculty of Communication 2018-2020 Strategic Plan” covered the planning process, institutional evaluations and strategic plan details of the Faculty of Communication. On the other hand, the ways to be followed to achieve the vision were laid out in a consistent structure.

Turkey's First Faculty of Communication”

Prof. Dr. Yolcu said: ‘’ IU Communication Faculty, founded in 1950, is the first Communication Faculty in our country and has the first Nobel prize winner graduate of Turkey. YKS 2019 base scores showed that the students with the highest scores in the related field preferred the Faculty of Communication of IU in the first place among the state universities. We offer them the opportunity to gain experience in the communication sector before they graduate with the help of practice units, student clubs and workshops that have diversity. Our students can also take elective courses from different departments in our Faculty in addition to the compulsory courses they must take. For example, a student studying in the Journalism Department can choose courses to improve himself in the field of camera and fiction. Currently, the sector wants to see all of the competencies offered by the Communication Faculties students in an integrated way. As Faculty of Communication, we prepare our students as individuals who have got the competencies of all fields in the sector and have kept up with the requirements of the age. This is what the industry and our students expect from us.’’

Prof. Dr. Yolcu said, "In the preparation of our curriculum, we took into account how the faculties of communication in the world conduct education studies and what they will do in the future. By strengthening our ties with the communication sector in our faculty, we have increased our efforts towards application-oriented and scientific research projects. We train our students in accordance with the qualifications of the individuals who will work in communication field in the future. In this sense, we are working together on many projects on theory and practice with our students who receive PhD education within the scope of YÖK 100/2000 PhD Scholarship Program in our faculty.”

“This Achievement Is the Success Of The Entire Faculty Of Communication”

Prof. Dr. Yolcu added, ‘’As IU faculty of Communication, we attach great importance to accreditation, internationalization and quality management studies. Dr. Yolcu concluded his speech as follows: "As Istanbul University Faculty of Communication, we aim to continuously improve our quality-oriented perspective, as in the past, and to move it to better points in present and future. IU Communication Faculty is good example to all communication faculties in Turkey through quality studies. All these studies have been effective in the accreditation of our Faculty of Communication. This achievement is the joint success of the entire Faculty of Communication as a family.”
