İstanbul University, Faculty of Aquatic Sciences is a Partner in the Erasmus+ project ECO-GT

On September 1, 2023, a consortium comprising Gdansk University of Technology in Poland, Fachhochschule Technikum Wien in Austria, Technological University Dublin In Ireland, Lapin Ammattikorkeakoulu Oy in Finland, İstanbul University in Turkey, Universidade de Tras-Osmontes e Alto Douro in Portugal, and Universitatea Transilvania din Brasov in Romania launched the “Engineers Communicating and Collaborating Internationally for the Green Transition ECO GT” project, funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnerships Programme (2023-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000165199).

This project addresses a significant deficit in the engineering curriculum by focusing on the international communication practices of green-transition engineers in Europe. The lack of understanding in this area has hindered the development of specialized training materials and perpetuated an unhelpful distinction between "hard" and "soft" skills. To address this, the project introduces an innovative competency framework, implementable learning outcomes, and objective assessment criteria tailored to the needs of green-transition engineers.

These outcomes are based on an in-depth analysis of the professional practices of green-transition engineers, going beyond generic communication skills or language training. The project's material is specifically designed to support the development and diffusion of green transition innovation in research, business, and policymaking communities.

Furthermore, the project takes a highly innovative approach to curriculum design, offering engineering faculties and individual students a wide range of evidence-based communication competences to integrate into their courses and learning pathways. This approach is flexible and adaptable to various institutional, linguistic, national, and transnational contexts.

The project also emphasizes reflective organizational learning, where partners explore the challenges and opportunities in curriculum development. The goal is to enrich future engineering curricula and provide practical international communication skills to future green-transition engineers. Over the long term, this initiative seeks to enhance the perceived and actual relevance of international communication skills education.
