Istanbul University Dragon Boat Races were held
Organized by Istanbul University Sports Union Directorate, with the contributions of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Youth and Sports Directorate, The Dragon Boat Races took place at IU Avcılar Campus on 5th and 6th of May, 2018.
On the first day of the Dragon Boat Races, 19 teams from the Istanbul University faculties and units were rowing. At the end of the race, IU Vocational School of Technical Sciences (TBMYO) became the champion, IU Directorate of Health Culture and Sports (SKS) was the runner up and IU Faculty of Forestry took the third place.
Championship cup and awards were given to the IU TBMYO team, SKS team and IU Faculty of Forestry team by IU Sports Association Manager Hamdi Özcan, IU TBMYO Director Prof Dr Erdoğan Köse and İBB Youth and Sports Directorate Sports Services Coordinator Ozan Develioğlu, respectively.
"Turkey Intercollegiate Dragon Boat Championship"
Second day of Dragon Boat Races hosted the “Turkey Intercollegiate Dragon Boat Championship”.
The championship started with a motivating opening speech by IU Sports Association Manager Hamdi Özcan. 17 teams from different universities paddled for the race. While Piri Reis University won in the mixed category, Istanbul Technical University won in the male category of the championship. In the mixed category Beykent University was the runner up and Istanbul University was at third place however in the male category Bezmialem was at second place and the Piri Reis University at third.
In the mixed category IU Sports Association Manager Hamdi Özcan presented the championship cup to Piri Reis University and in the male category IU SKS President Yavuz Padem presented theirs to Istanbul Technical University. Rest of the mixed category awards were presented to winners Beykent University and Istanbul University by İBB Youth and Sports Directorate Sports Services Coordinator Gökay Bozkurt and Central Arbitration Board Member Barış Koç, respectively. Rest of the male category awards were presented to winners Bezmialem University and Piri Reis University by İBB Youth and Sports Directorate Sports Services Coordinator Ozan Develioğlu and IU Water Sports Coordinator Özay Özdemir, respectively.
At the end of the championship, IU SKS President Yavuz Padem stated that such organizations should be done more frequently and expressed his thanks to the guests, to the students who have participated and to the IBB Youth and Sports Directorate for the support they have shown.
