Basic First Aid Training Certification Ceremony
The Basic First Aid Training Certification Ceremony was conducted on 3 April 2017 at IU Rectorate Building Blue Hall.
The opening speeches of the ceremony were made by IU Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak and IU Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator Prof. Dr. Halim İşsever.
“Occupational Health and Safety Councils in our units”
Prof. Dr. Halim İşsever, by implying the importance of occupational health and safety, said: “Occupational health and safety is one of the important elements of working life and working in a healthy and safe environment is one of the basic human rights. Raising the healthcare capacity of employees, preventing damage from the working environment, harmonizing the work to employees and employees to the work are the basis of occupational health and safety. Providing the conditions about health and safety in workplaces is one of the basic responsibilities of employers. As to employees, they are responsible for obeying the whole instructions.”
Prof. Dr. İşsever drew attention to Istanbul University’s practices upon that issue and said: “Occupational health and safety settlement in our university has been continuing since 2014. Firstly, we established more than 50 occupational health and safety councils in our units within the work programme about the establishment of the councils. Then, a process which continues with the council trainings, employee trainings, risk assessment, making contingency plans and their changing into an integrated structure with civil defence plans was made.
“We maintain training programs on a volunteer basis”
Congratulating the officers that have deserved to take the certificate in the ceremony, IU Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak said: “While our university maintains its activities, it also renews itself continuously, searches for new techniques in order to be more dynamic in this renewal and enables all opportunities to perform these techniques. Some of them derives from our willingness, some is given us as legal obligation. We continue without feeling and making feel this legal obligation. We carry on our works with this consciousness since we know it is a necessity for our own safety. The more internalized this topic is, the more effective it becomes.”
Expressing that they prepare training program every year for Istanbul University, the Rector put an end to his speech: “We determine the training programs through questionnaires upon our own staff. Here we take into account the intensity of demand and whether the program was built in the previous years or not. In this way we also plan in-service training for the following year. Our university’s time honoured works in this direction and the instinct of owning them have always been appreciated. There have been also some works followed, took as example by other universities.”
After the speeches, Istanbul University members who have completed the first aid training successfully and deserved to take the certificate were presented their certificate by IU Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak.
The ceremony ended after the cocktail.
