The Rector of Cluj Babeş Bolyai University Prof. Dr. Ioan Aurel Pop and the academic member of the same university, Prof. Dr. Tahsin Gemil visited Istanbul University in 23rd and 24th of June.

As part of their visit to Istanbul University, Prof. Dr. Ioan Aurel Pop and Prof. Dr. Tahsin Gemil have met IU Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak in his office in 23rd of June. Prof. Dr. Ioan Aurel Pop and Prof. Dr. Tahsin Gemil exchanged ideas with Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak about the projects with Istanbul University, dual programs and student exchange programs. At the end of their visit, IU Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak presented the Rector of Cluj Babeş Bolyai University Prof. Dr. Ioan Aurel Pop a gift.

IU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bayram Mert Savrun, IU President of Department of Press and Public Relations and Assistent to Rector, Prof. Dr. Ergün Yolcu and President of IU Academic Relations Committee Assoc. Prof. Dr. Y. Yeşim Özer were also present during the visit.

Prof. Dr. Ioan Aurel Pop and Prof. Dr. Tahsin Gemil visited the Rectorate building with the company of Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak, and listened to an explanation of the building’s history. Visiting IU Library of Unique Works of Art (Nadir Eserler Kütüphanesi), Prof. Dr. Ioan Aurel Pop and Prof. Dr. Tahsin Gemil viewed 3 works that are considered candidates to be historical artifacts by UNESCO. These 3 works included one that is about music and written by Prince Dimitri Kandemiroğlu in Turkish. Prof. Dr. Ioan Aurel Pop stated that he is interested in all written works, especially the ones written in Latin. Later on, the guests who visited Bayezid II Turkish Bath Culture Museum were informed about Turkish culture and the museum.

Three Different Romanian Principalities in 200 years: Transylvania, Moldova, and Wallachia

The conference of “Three Different Romanian Principalities in 200 years: Transylvania, Moldova and Wallachia” was held under the moderation of the Head of Department of IU Faculty of Literature Slavic Languages and Literature Prof. Dr. Emine İnanır in IU Rectorate Building Doctorate Hall. Rector of Cluj Babeş Bolyai University Prof. Dr. Ioan Aurel Pop and Cluj Babeş Bolyai University Academic Member Prof. Dr. Tahsin Gemil attended the conference.

The conference started with the presentation of “Transylvania Principalities in the 16th and 17th centuries” made by Prof. Dr. Ioan Aurel Pop. Later on, Prof. Dr. Tahsin Gemil made a presentation titled “Moldovan Principalities in the 16th and 17th centuries” and IU Academic Member Prof. Dr. Mahir Ayan made a presentation titled “The Vlach Principalities in the 18th and 19th centuries”.

President of the Higher Education Institution (YOK) Prof. Dr. M. A. Yekta Saraç, IU Rector Prof. Dr. Mahmut Ak and Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Sedat Murat, Prof. Dr. Recep Güloğlu, Prof. Dr. Halil Yunus Ersöz and Prof. Dr. Bayram Mert Savrun attended the conference.
